Ala Moana Center is the largest open-air shopping mall in the world. You will find more than 350 shops, restaurants, and boutiques to choose from, as well as a number of first-class boutiques, department stores and over 160 dining options. Ala Moana consistently ranks among the top malls worldwide. It is America’s most valued shopping center, with assets of $5.74 trillion as of January 2018. The mall is home to Macy’s and Bloomingdales as well as Marshalls, Macy’s and Neiman Marcus.

The land had been a wetland before the building of the mall. Walter F. Dillingham, who led the dredging of the area nearby, created excess coral that filled the wetland. Dillingham purchased the land in 1912 through the estate Bernice Pauahi Bishop. Reclaimed land, Lowell Dillingham’s son and successor initiated the Ala Moana Center project in 1948. You can take time to stroll out onto the Magic Island peninsula. At the end is a lovely enclosed beach with a half moon crescent.
